Knitting Circle
Wednesday, September 1 and 15, 7:00–8:30 p.m.
Knitters who already know the basics are invited to drop in
on the first and third Wednesday evening of each month to
socialize with other knitters and work on a project of their
choice. Instructor Ann Garwig will be available to assist
individuals. Other needle crafters are welcome to join the

Meditation Circle
Fridays, September 3, 17 and 24, 2:30–3:30 p.m.
Stress and a fast-paced life see many of us seeking
alternative ways of escape. Slow down and join Reference
Librarian Ann Kerr and reduce stress using meditation. Light
stretching at the beginning of the meditation hour will
relax your muscles and allow you to be more comfortable and

Posture Perfect
Fridays, September 3, 17 and 24, 4:00–4:30 p.m.
“Stand up straight, pull your shoulders back, don’t slouch!”
Your mother was right, good posture is important for good
health and for feeling good. Reference Library Ann Kerr will
share some simple exercises to improve your posture.

Wind Journeys (2009)

Colombian film The Wind Journeys is the story of Ignacio, an
old troubadour who is renowned for his skills with an
accordion. After the death of his wife, he vows to never
play the accursed accordion again, and embarks on one last
journey to return the instrument to its rightful owner.

Poetry Circle

Dying young, English Romantic poet John Keats (1795–1821)
epitomizes the image of the tormented artist. Keats believed
his poetry would be forgotten after his death, but today his
odes and sonnets are among the most renowned in English
literature. Pick up a packet of the selected poems written
by Keats from the Lawrence Reference Desk. Seating is

Dancercise
Tuesdays, September 14 and 21, 5:00–6:00 p.m.
Dancercise combines the benefits of aerobic exercise with
the rhythm and fun of dancing. Get moving with certified
fitness trainer Maria Okros, who will lead this new
60-minute class. The class begins with an aerobic warm up
and is followed by a simple, easy to follow routine that
will keep you moving for a great cardio workout.

Franny and Zooey by J.D. Salinger
Franny and Zooey is two interrelated stories by J.D.
Salinger, which were originally published in The New
Yorker and then published in book form in 1961. The
stories concern Franny and Zooey Glass, two members of the
family that was the subject of most of Salinger's short

This masterful, Pulitzer-prize winning literary epic is
about the painful and complex realities of slave life on a
Southern plantation. Henry Townsend, a black farmer, boot

exploration of race, trust and the cruel truths of human

Workshop

Job Strategies
for Older Workers
